Kids - in for a Quid, out for a Lifetime...
Brought 4 young lads (aged 7/8) to their second game at UP on Saturday, the first having been Stoke last season....Took a while to get over their first visit (no home team shots at goal remember), but new season, new optimism after encouraging performances against Spurs and Palace. But hey, what do you know, same old, same old....What is the point of encouraging us to bring our kids and their young, impressionable mates to UP when we get totally outplayed by a team that lost its biggest starsand turned over 14 players in the Summer ? All my son took away from it was hearing two F-words (ending in Noble - unfair since he had our only shot ) and that he and his mates should stick to their Barcelona and Chelsea shirts. Where are we going with BFS ?

Can't believe this really.

That's the game mate, if I chucked my rattle every time I've seen us serve up a shit display over the past 40 years and not bothered, I'd have saved a fucking fortune.

But I would have missed out on some of the very best days of my life.

My son started coming with me aged 4. He's been the length and breadth of the country following WHU and fucking loves it. Now 22, when I can't go he'll often go with his mates.

You don't like Allardyce - so what? Get over it and support the side that's selected to play.

Failing that, I hear Barcelona and Chelsea are supposed to be pretty good...

Reminds of when a relative took his lad to his first game as it was reduced prices when we played BFS's Bolton Ironically. They were down the front of the TBL, it was raining, they got soaked and we were 3-0 down by HT which is when they left, he's not been back since.

Every team has stinkers at home, granted we have more then most. But West Ham will never be a team that pisses over teams week in week out at the bolyen.

Either like it or lump it

Sorry but I've been following the club for 40 years, all this support the team through blinkers is total bollocks

Why waste a small fortune on attending continually served up dross ?

We all support the team in different ways

I refuse to be made to feel guilty that I don't "support" the team through the tough periods, I've spent tens of thousands filling West Ham all over Europe in that time.

The current managerial set up is a fucking joke

The bacics were not done on Saturday

Basic defending and basic ball retention

I'm not subsidising that regime a penny more until I can see changes being made with the style of play

Simple

I can see what the OP means. Dull football and no atmosphere (unless you count grown men in replica shirts turning the air blue an atmosphere) Kids have plenty of things to do these days so why would they want to go back for the same shit?? Oh I know, they don't, they just get dragged along by their old man who thinks it's cool taking their sprogs to football and following in the old family traditions.. Do them a favour and spare them the boredom, misery and future monies..

PS: It's gonna be shit at the OS anyways.

I don't think football was for him Sterling anyway but that game certainly put the nail in the coffin.

Took my boy Saturday, his first game as a STH (He's 7) and only his second ever game after I took him two seasons ago.

He's still buzzing. Demanded we stay until the final whistle, was gutted by the result but hasn't stopped talking about the game since. On the way home I told him he'll have to get used to losing and asked if he still wanted to go. Of course he did, and can we get season tickets next year too?

At that age you have to take some responsibility for getting them into it and keeping their interest. If all your son took away from the game was the two points you made, you can't have done a lot to enhance his overall matchday experience.

I introduced my boy to Penners and JohnSON. Can't get much better than that.

Well said... Especially "You don't like Allardyce - so what? Get over it and support the side that's selected to play".

Thought that our support was shocking on Saturday... Where I sit every week was full of once a season types who turn up but seem to know everything!

Had 2 blokes behind me and their daughters who didn't stop from the minute we kicked off... "He's shit, he's fucking useless, Reid wants to go, Ravel is our best player by miles etc etc"

If you can't support West Ham when we lose then don't support us when we win!!!

It also kicked off about 4 rows in front of me (West Ham vs West Ham). Not sure what it was all over - anyone else see this?

Thanks to all; I know you're right - been same for me over last 40 years... told them it only makes the good results feel better etc.

I agree it's a good deal - the so-called " Chelsea kids" have never even been to Stamford Bridge. Will try an away game next.

Faith restored, back to work...

I have to say the atmosphere at home games is shocking and has been for a long time - even before BFS. Constant slagging of home players seems to be the new sport. Sometimes it's difficult to tell whether you are actually in with home supporters. I remember being in the old stands intimidating the opposition with taunts - not our own players.

Unless we actually get some supporters who don't sound like they are in a constant state of depression and feel they are being tortured by turning up at the ground then we are going to put off young fans and ruin the future of the club.

I do believe the poisonous atmosphere does affect players decisions during the game and encourages the opposition and it is a factor in why we don't play well enough at home games.

That said the manager stokes the fire with stubborn team selection, stupid quips, ear cupping and insulting remarks so is it any wonder things are like they are.
